The Reptile Show

For Vic and Tino's birthday they had a reptile show. Wow, it was quite a show. They showed all different types of reptiles, including snakes. Yes, they all had names, but it went in one ear and out the other. That's what happens when you are scared to death. Tino seemed like he was having a great time with all the kids. We gave him a ride on toy that looks like a Bee; I think he liked it.

Ashlee didn't stay for the whole thing as pouty face Paisley was really scared of it all. She came unglued long before they brought the snakes out. They started with some kind of giant Iguana. I'm not even sure if it was an Iguana, mainly because it was so huge.

Shane, the guy doing the show, was very educational. Then, they brought out a tortoise, then an enormous tortoise. They look cute....but...I like to steer clear. Once, my sister Crystal worked for Wildlife Resources. Someone brought in a snapping turtle. I can't remember if we knew it was a snapping turtle from the get go, or if we just figured out that it was a snapping turtle. Well, my kids were experimenting, you know to see if it would really snap. So, Brittany, who was about eight or ten at the time, had a pencil in front of it, and it clamped on to the pencil...hard and fast. The kids were being so cautious. Clearly this thing would chomp down on anything. Next thing I know, Brittany is screaming. I rush in, and the turtle has clamped down on her finger. I didn't want to even touch the thing, but it did have my little girls finger in it's mouth. So, I start tapping on it's head, you know trying to give it the hint to let go. I didn't want to make it madder. Brittany is coming unglued by now. I didn't know what to do. That dang turtle never let go of her finger...nope, it took a chunk right out of it. You could see this little chunk of finger missing, shaped like a turtles mouth. I called Crystal to come and get it. They look cute...but....I'm not falling for that one twice.

They brought out all kinds of snakes, I have to say it was amazing. There was even a snake that weighed 150 pounds. In between taking out the one snake, and getting the next one. When I was just sitting there relaxing, I could feel my chin quivering, I was hoping that no one could see, at least not the kids. Seriously, I'm forty six, not six. I'm not sure if I was more worried about the snakes, the germs, or the reptiles. Some of the kids were holding the snakes and they were just loving it. I was thinking that one sudden move and that think is going to the floor. All my worrying was for nothing, the kids had a blast and not one reptile was hurt in the process.

When I took Gavin home we were telling Ashlee about the reptile show. I told her how brave Gavin and Marshall were, holding the snakes and everything. I told Gavin that I was going to email him some of the pictures so he could show his mom how brave he was. Then, he turned to Ashlee and said, "It's going to knock your socks off". I swear that kids is so funny.
